Catastrophic injuries are life-changing injuries that have serious and long term effects on the victim. These injuries usually involve a difficult recovery process, multiple operations and possibly a lifetime of medical rehabilitation and bills. The victim of a catastrophic injury may be unable to return to work and may require some degree of assistance. As a result, these injuries often place serious stress on the victim’s family. Catastrophic injuries often include spinal cord injuries, injuries that result in partial or total paralysis, the loss of a limb, traumatic brain injuries, severe burn injuries and injuries resulting in disfigurement and significant scarring.
