Life-long Consequences of Amputations

At Ciecka Law, we understand the pain and suffering our clients’ experience in the wake of amputations. In addition to physical pain, clients may suffer emotional trauma that can affect how they live. Furthermore, amputations can result in long-term economic consequences due to medical expenses and lost wages. Our team is fully dedicated to advocating for our amputated clients in seeking compensation for pain and suffering associated with their claims.

Individuals who have had amputations are often faced with long-term consequences that can impair their quality of life. Loss of mobility is one of the most immediate concerns since many will require a prosthetic leg or wheelchair. In addition to the loss of mobility, patients may suffer from a phenomenon known as phantom limb pain. Phantom pain is an excruciatingly painful sensation arising from nerve endings in what was once their limb that hasn’t healed after the loss of the physical body part it was connected to. With regards to infection, exercising precautionary medical practices on behalf of the patient’s general practitioner is crucial before and after any amputations are performed. At Ciecka Law we understand that these life-long consequences have immense impacts on individual lives and make it our duty to fight for the rights and needs of those affected.

What Causes Amputations?

Amputations may occur as a result of traumatic accidents, medical malpractice, and more. In traumatic amputations, the loss of a limb often occurs due to a major accident; such as a car accident involving a drunk driver. When medical malpractice is involved in the amputation, it is usually because of an untreated infection which ultimately leads to loss of tissue or circulation problems that can’t be rectified. Regardless of the cause, the loss of a limb can be devastating and requires a diligent attorney to assist amputation victims with recovering the damages they deserve. At Ciecka Law we are passionate about making sure our amputated clients are properly compensated for traumatic amputations caused by negligence or accidents involving third parties.

Different Types of Amputations

Amputation is the process of surgically removing a body part, typically an amputated limb. Leg amputation is the most common amputation procedure out of all amputations, and there are two main types of leg amputations – above-the-knee amputation (AKA) and below-the-knee amputation (BKA). An above-the-knee amputation (AKA) is a type of surgical amputation where the entire leg above the knee joint is removed down to the top of the thigh bone. Alternatively, a below-the-knee amputation (BKA) involves amputating the lower portion of the leg below the knee joint. Here at Ciecka Law, our team of experienced lawyers understand your situation and will do everything in their power to properly protect your rights and get you justice after undergoing an amputation.
